Role Overview

About Promethion Industries Promethion Industries is a European defence technology company building autonomous supremacy systems for aerial and multi-domain operations. Our mission is to enable decisive autonomy for NATO-aligned forces through tightly integrated autonomy stacks designed and built in Europe. Our focus is defensive and counter-system capabilities, including anti-UAS and resilient autonomy under contested conditions. We are looking for a Senior Robotics Engineer - State Estimation, VIO & Sensor Fusion to build the estimation backbone that allows our aircraft to understand their own motion without depending on GNSS. Your mission with us Build the state-estimation and sensor-fusion backbone of our autonomous aerial systems. Develop robust vehicle-state estimation for high-dynamic flight and GNSS-degraded or GNSS-denied environments. Fuse IMUs, cameras, optical flow, airspeed, GNSS, barometers and other sensors into reliable low-latency estimates. Develop, integrate and deploy VIO, visual odometry, ego-motion optical flow and inertial-estimation approaches. Own temporal calibration, sensor synchronisation, coordinate frames and estimator consistency. Diagnose drift, bias, observability and timing problems from first principles. Work directly with real flight logs and hardware to reproduce estimator failures and rapidly improve performance. Build graceful degradation when individual sensors become unreliable or unavailable. Quantify estimator uncertainty and expose meaningful confidence and health information to downstream autonomy and control systems. Evaluate alternative estimation architectures including direct velocity estimation and continuous-time approaches where they provide advantages at high dynamics. Your contribution to the team (required) Strong practical experience in robotics state estimation, localization or inertial estimation. Deep understanding of IMU-based estimation and multi-sensor fusion. Strong experience with EKF, error-state filtering or comparable nonlinear-estimation techniques. Practical experience with VIO, visual odometry, optical flow or closely related systems. Strong understanding of rigid-body transformations and coordinate frames. Strong C++ skills. Experience deploying estimators onto real robots or vehicles. Strong understanding of sensor calibration and time synchronization. Experience analyzing raw sensor data, logs and estimator performance. Ability to work with high-rate, noisy and imperfect real-world measurements. Big plus High-speed UAV or fixed-wing experience. GNSS-denied flight. PX4 estimator experience. ROS2. GTSAM / Ceres / Eigen. Event-camera VIO or optical flow. Continuous-time estimation. Radar-aided or RF-aided estimation. Air-data integration. Aviation, defence, autonomous vehicles or space systems. Even if you don’t tick every box, we encourage you to apply - we’d love to hear from you.
